Buying a Home in Adelaide

Adelaide is Australia’s fifth-biggest city – what a brilliant place to live!

Adelaide is a magnet for singles: budgeteering students, office workers, and mature independents: the city attracts those who crave urban pace more than suburban space.

This is South Australia’s big smoke: a modest CBD by global standards, but big enough to provide all the enticements of modern city living which helps people from all over to consider buying a home in Adelaide.

From humble one-bedroom stone workers cottages to flashy penthouse apartments, central Adelaide delivers the real-estate goods.

Unlike Melbourne and Sydney, Adelaide didn’t ‘boom’ chaotically in Victorian times, but rather grew steadily, evolving around well-planned streets and squares. The east end was historically affluent: here you’ll find elegant two-storey brick terrace houses, classy single-fronted stone cottages and stylish new townhouses.

In the city’s west you’ll find heritage workers cottages, ranks of contemporary townhouses and the majority of the city’s apartment towers.

Encircled by parklands, it’s easy to escape Adelaide’s downtown streets…but why would you? City life offers convenience, excitement and opportunity, but Adelaide remains a relaxed and easy-going place. A huge variety of houses and apartments keeps young, city-savvy residents feeling right at home.

Pubs, theatres, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, cinemas, markets, shops, galleries…if you’re bored in Adelaide, you’re not trying very hard.

Stock-up at Central Market, one of the best food markets in Australia. Grab a coffee on Rundle Street, catch a movie at the Palace Nova, slurp a down laksa in Chinatown then retire for a few beers at the legendary Exeter Hotel.

Chain stores, food courts and shopping arcades line Rundle Mall, and getting around is a breeze: buses, trains and trams all rumble through town.

The University of Adelaide and UniSA are both here, as is Adelaide High School, one of the state’s top public schools.

Of course, there are families living in central Adelaide – in graciously proportioned terrace houses and three-bedroom townhouses and apartments – but most CBD locals are young students and professionals who love the convenience, variety and non-stop stimulation of urban life.

All of these aspects of Adelaide living make buying a home in Adelaide the right decision for many people.
